EDUCATION
Education is the backbone of any vibrant and developing society.
It is the vehicle that a society uses to achieve its goals. As per
the command from Allah (S.A.W), Muslims have an obligation to ensure
that the Ummah is educated.
Jamia allocates KShs 40,000 monthly to assist needy and deserving
students in paying for their secondary school fees. Each student
is allocated KShs 3,000 every term and to date 50 students are funded
every term. The total expenditure per term is KShs 150,000 and the
shortfall on Jamia’s contribution is funded by the donations
from the collection boxes.
In consideration of the prevailing economic hardships, this amount
is very small and there is a need to explore other channels towards
more funds so that more persons are facilitated to access education.
Jamia continues to sensitize the Ummah towards accessing alternative
funding for education. This is done through reprinting and free
distribution of Government Constituency Bursary fund forms to the
Ummah.
The executive committee has approved recommendations by the education
sub committee to provide education for two male and two female students
by paying full fees for their secondary education and drop the present
set up.
Jamia also still continues its support of IRE teachers in primary
schools and is currently supporting 12 teachers by paying their
monthly salaries to the tune Kshs80, 000 monthly. Again with the
continued challenges faced by our children in secular schools (children
are forced to undertake CRE in the absence of an IRE teacher), more
needs to be done in order to address this concern. The options should
not be limited to provision of more IRE teachers but we also need
to explore the possibility of establishing our own schools which
can offer an Islamic acceptable curriculum.
