Hunger is a real truth and issue of the Earth that all we need to face and find solution for it. Everbody should agreed that hunger is one of the greatest and most important issue of the world. People who believe the fundamental right to live should think that world should solve this problem anyhow till it will be too late. In this essay I am going to talk about hunger , physical effects of it , statistics of it and solution for it.
Malnutrition, famine and starvation are cause hunger. Malnutrition is lack of proper nutrition and it caused by not having enough to eat. Famine is extreme scarcity of food and word of famine is coming from old French word which is faim ‘hunger’. Starvation is suffering or death caused by lack of food. As we all see that those 3 words writing differently but giving same meaning which is lack of food, hunger. Hunger can influence so many things on body that effects your daily life. When you are hungry , you do not want to do anything untill you eat something. If a place has a issue of hunger , we can observe those things; Lower birth weights , decreased or delayed cognitive ability, higher rates of mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression , increased behavioral problems, higher rates of homelessness, reduced economic opportunities , etc. I am going to give you some statistics of world hunger. The UNFAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) estimates that 870 millions of people of the 7.1 billions of people in the world or 1/8 people have a problem of malnutrition. 852 million people of the 870 million people are live in developing countries and that shows that they representing 15% of the population of developing countries and there are 16 million people have a problem of malnutrition in developed countries. But this numbers are not always increase. If we look at the Asia and the Pacific countries, we see that the number of malnutrition people decreased 30%, from 739 million to 563 million. And thats not only in Asia and Pacific. Latin America and the Caribbean also showed progress from 1992 to 2012. Their hunger decreased from 65 million hungry to 49 million. But when we come to Africa , everything is not good as Asia or Latin America. The number of hungry grew in Africa from 175 million to 239 million and that means one in four are hungry in Africa.
As we all see that what is hunger and what parts of world have a issue of hungry. But where is the solution? Lets see what does Turkey and UN do about hungry. UN has a program which is WFP (World Food Programme) and their slogan is Fighting Hunger Worldwide. WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In emergencies , they get food to where it is needed. WFP born in 1961 and they pursues a vision of the world in which every man , woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life. Their activies are in South America , Africa , Middle East and Asia. When we look at the Turkey , they don’t have that kind of problem inside of their country but they help the people from different countries about hunger. Turkey helps people of Syria , Afghanistan , Pakistan when those countries needed food.
As we see that we have a problem of hunger but we can not solve this problem if the people of this Earth are selfish. We need to think of hungry people and should help them anyhow and at anycost if we have power to do this.
