Nobody can imagine his life without an internet. Internet has shrunk the distances. Even that you are at thousands mile away from your family and friends but just pressing one button you can talk them on video or audio call. Computer has become an essential part in our lives. Nowadays computers are just like breathing. Without it life is just like a body without soul.As Stephen Hawking has said, “We are all now connected by the Internet, like neurons in a giant brain.” (Stephen Hawking) Computer has changed the world into a global village. Today the whole world is on your fingertips. You just click a button and move anywhere in the world.
On one hand, it is argued that due to the more dependency on the computer, life is more tensed and complicated now. For example, modern school education systems are mainly computer based so students have no opportunity to learn mathematical skill even small subtraction and addition they cannot count without computer. Computer is one of the biggest invention of the 19th century.
Although computer has made our life comfortable, but it has also some drawbacks. These days people are more connected with each other by using internet but in my opinion, they are not close to each other from core of heart. Nowadays people try to find their friends on an internet but no one knows about their neighbors. Everybody wishes to have more international friends but nobody cares about their relatives and neighbors which are really connected with them.
But, due to the existence of internet and information technology people are having social life problem. Everybody has their own mobile phone and can use it for entertainment and chatting. Many people like to play online using their mobile phones. It has been observed that families are having communication problems due to have less time for each other. Families are most isolated these days due to ineffective usage of internet. In my opinion itself technology is not a bad thing it depends upon the usage of technology. Everything has side effect as David Wong has said that “New technology is not good or evil in and of itself. It’s all about how people choose to use it.” (David Wong)
People do not go out for outing and gaming they spend their time on social websites. Even that children have no time for their parents and they may have bad company and can be addicted by smoking, drinking and other social evils. Besides Children are too much addicted to computer games rather than other outdoor activities and finally our future generation are becoming more machine dependent and physically disable and it results seems like in near future horror.
Sports and games teaches us patience and how to fight with loneliness and isolation. When someone goes out for gaming he meets and attract with other people In this way he tries to lose his loneliness. Sports also teaches us teamwork. So, if we work with team we never fell prey to loneliness and isolation. Emma Stone said, “You know how sports teach kids teamwork and how to be strong and brave and confident? Improv was my sport. I learned how to not waffle and how to hold a conversation, how to take risks and actually be excited to fail.” (Emma stone)
In old days people were close to each other they sit together and have good words for each other but now a day people spent all of their time in front of computer due to which all these good things that was happening in their lives has been evacuated from their life. These things are directly affecting our minds and ultimately our health.
Its human nature that people remain attach to someone until they need help from someone, so nowadays we are getting everything from the internet for example if we want to know anything or want to get knowledge about something we just use internet and get our self-cleared from any kind of confusion so why we need to sit with our elders and have some words. Technology creates elaborate social network online, but unfortunately leads to isolation. Online communication replaces face to face interaction with human beings.
In addition, social networks also replace a few strong social connections with a large number of weak connections, leading the circumstances where one can have large number of friends but few one actual real-world friends. This can lead to loneliness and isolation. This can also lead to depression and feeling of loneliness. People can have serious diseases due to isolation according to Dalai lama “too much self-centered attitude, you see, brings, you see, isolation. Result: loneliness, fear, anger. The extreme self-centered attitude is the source of suffering.” (Dalai Lama)
Here I would like to give a reference, according to the New York Times “Social isolation is a growing epidemic, one that’s increasingly recognized as having dire physical, mental and emotional consequences.” (The New York Times) The New York has published an article name by “how social isolation is killing us” “A wave of new research suggests social separation is bad for us. Individuals with less social connection have disrupted sleep pattern, altered immune system, more inflammation and higher levels of stress hormones. One recent study found that isolation increases the risk of heart disease by 29 percent and stroke by 32 percent.
Another that pooled data from 70 studies and 3.4 million people found that socially isolated individuals had a 30 percent higher risk of dying in the next seven years, and that this effect was largest in middle age. Loneliness can accelerate cognitive decline in older adults, and isolated individuals are twice as likely to die prematurely as those with more robust social interactions. These effects start early: socially isolated children have significantly poorer health 20 years later, even after controlling for other factors. All told, loneliness is as important a risk factor for early death as obesity and smoking.” (The New York Times) The B.C. Ministry of Health defines loneliness as “subjective and measured using questions that seek perceptions of relationships, social activity, and feelings about social activity. Social isolation is objective and can be measured using observations of an individual’s social interactions and network.” Although loneliness and isolation are related, they refer to distinct aspects of the social world of older people. Hence “the terms should not be used interchangeably to refer to a single concept.” (B.C. Ministry of health)
With the advent of computing devices and communication through it, we see a steep decline in everyday communication, the reason for it is simple, why talk to someone face to face when it can be done faster through a text. People have stopped visiting each other’s so often because of the same factor, everyone is so connected all the time that there is no need for visiting anyone other than the occasional affair. Which is where the shallow connections analogy comes into being, where multiple shallow interactions cannot aim to strike down a in depth strong connection. The great scientist Albert Einstein said, “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interactions. The world will have generation of idiots.” (Albert Einstein)
Social media has not also been decreasing the quality of human interaction but has also changed the amount of relationship in real life. This is going to lead some serious issues. One of them is the decreasing language skills. Mostly people thinks that English language can be neglected wile online so, they use short hand version of words to convey a message quickly.it decrease their social skill when they use this kind of words and phrases. Experts believe that people are beginning to mix their business and personal relationship guidelines. Which can lead to serious issue with workers as well.it causes a lack of professionalism.
